Roscommon's Senan Kilbride announces inter-county retirement

Roscommon have been dealt a blow ahead of the 2017 season with the news that Senan Kilbride has retired from inter-county football.

In a statement released by the Roscommon County Board, they revealed the St. Brigid’s forward has notified the team management of his decision.

Kilbride has been a regular with Roscommon since he made his championship debut back in 2008 against Galway. He missed out on the team that won the Connacht Championship in 2010, due to injury, but he won Division 3 and Division 2 titles with the team.

In 2013, Kilbride was part of the St. Brigid's team that won the All-Ireland Club Championship. Against Ballymun Kickhams, he scored 1-3 in the final, as the Roscommon side won their first All-Ireland title.

Speaking on the retirement of the 31-year-old, Roscommon County Board Chairman Seamus Sweeney thanked Kilbride for his service to the county.

"On behalf of Roscommon GAA people everywhere I would like to thank Senan for his tremendous service to Roscommon GAA and I know he’ll continue the great work in St Brigid's and through his work as a primary school teacher. Well done Senan and thanks for the memories.

Kilbride will continue to play club football. In November, his St. Brigid's side lost the Connacht Final to Galway's Corofin.
