Roy Keane confirms Jon Walters fitness boost

Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane has confirmed that Jonathan Walters is fully fit for Sunday's hugely important 2018 World Cup qualifier with Austria.

The striker missed training in mid-week as a precaution, but took a full part in this morning's session at Abbottstown as confirmed by the FAI.

"Jon Walters is fine. He trained today, he's good," said Keane.

Walters scored an excellent goal against Uruguay last Sunday in a friendly match at the Aviva Stadium but also spurned another excellent opportunity from point blank range as Ireland won 3-1.

There are no new injury worries, with David McGoldrick the only absentee after he pulled out of the squad earlier in the week.

Ireland would move up to 14 points with a win over Austria, also creating a seven point gap between themselves and the Alpine nation.

The Boys in Green have already beaten the Austrians in Vienna thanks to a James McClean goal.

Serbia are currently level on points with Ireland at the top of the group, although the Balkan nation is ahead on goal difference.

Wales are level with Austria four points in arrears ahead of the upcoming round of action.
