Roy Keane has said that Gary Neville is "making excuses already" as Valencia manager after the Spanish side lost 2-0 to Lyon in the Champions League last night.
The Republic of Ireland assistant manager was speaking to ITV last night on their Champions League: Extra Time show which showed highlights of the game in the Mestalla Stadium.
Neville's contract with the Spanish club only runs until the end of the season and Keane is unsure why the deal is short-term. "I think the bit I'm puzzled about is that he has signed a six month contact. That's the bit I'm puzzled by."
Speaking about his former Manchester United team mate, Keane continued; "He's keeping his options open because he's still working with England, but if you're sitting down with an owner and he's talking about 'I'm committing to the club' and the owner says 'You're the man for us. Here's a six month deal'. It all seems a bit strange."
Neville has left the comfort of the television studios with Sky Sports to take the job, and speaking from experience, Keane claims managing and being a pundit are very different experiences.
"It's completely different. I think Gary's head will be spinning tonight after the game, the defeat and the emotions of it. It's like chalk and cheese to being a pundit to managing players... Fingers crossed he will do well. It's an opportunity he couldn't turn down but it's a big challenge for him."
