Alan Quinlan brands criticism of Simon Zebo taunt as "rubbish"

Alan Quinlan says Simon Zebo's apology for his taunt on Saturday night was unnecessary and described furore around the incident as "a load of rubbish".

Zebo crossed for the French side during a thumping victory over the Irish province and on his way to touching down in the corner, pointed at Michael Lowry in an exercise of gloating.

Speaking on Monday's #OTBAM, Quinlan said that incidents like these were part and parcel of the game.

"No he didn't [have to apologise]," he told Eoin Sheahan. "It's a load of rubbish if you ask me.

"If I was an Ulster player I would have said to Zebo after the game, 'Stop being a smartarse. You shouldn't have done that, he's only a young fella after coming into the team. A bit of respect.'

"The kind of person he is he'll put his hands up. But I don't think the referee has to go over there and apologise.

"I'm probably the Stuart McCloskey running across the field saying 'I'll kill you in the next ruck.'

"I think it's just blown out of proportion. He plays with a smile on his face and he's eccentric."
