Alan Quinlan nervous ahead of Welsh encounter; says Gatland will be "rubbing his hands"

Alan Quinlan says he is apprehensive ahead of Ireland’s game against their Welsh counterparts this Saturday.

The former Ireland international says he remains “nervous” ahead of the vital Championship showdown at Aviva Stadium on Saturday.

Quinlan joined this morning’s OTB AM to look ahead to Ireland’s third, and most eagerly anticipated contest of this year's campaign.

“I’m quite nervous ahead of this game. Everybody is asking: “Will Ireland win? - They are talking about Grand slams, and going to Twickenham. It’s very, very nerve wracking, to be honest,’ Quinlan said.

The Munster man is adamant Warren Gatland will do everything in his power to inspire motivation throughout his travelling squad. Quinlan thinks the New Zealander will try and implement an 'us against the World' mindset in order to instill that motivation.

“I think Gatland will be rubbing his hands together, and he always looks for some edge warrant, So, I think he’ll be saying to his players this week that everyone expects Ireland to win, they don’t rate us.”

The contests between both countries over the last number of years number of years have been exceptionally close. Wales having beaten Ireland in two of their last 3 encounters, with a drawn game in the 2016 Championship game.

The Shannon man thinks we can expect another razor tight encounter on Saturday afternoon.

“This is a game that is always a tricky one. The rivalry between both teams, the results have been nip and tuck. Wales have been over to Dublin, quite a few times, and won. We’ve been to Cardiff and won a few times.”
