Donncha O'Callaghan on the potential for Joey Carbery to move to another province

How Joey Carbery can earn more experience at No 10 while Johnny Sexton rules supreme in that position at Leinster, is one of the major issues that will have implications for Ireland.

On Monday Night Rugby, ex-Ireland head coach Eddie O'Sullivan suggested that a temporary move away to another Irish province could be a solution.

But what do Keith Wood and Donncha O'Callaghan think about how to get Carbery game-time at 10?

They joined Joe on Wednesday Night Rugby and Donncha gave his thoughts on O'Sullivan's idea. Donncha can see "both sides of" the debate about whether Carbery should stay or move.

He said: "I can 100% see what Eddie's saying and I think it's right that he is a 10 and I think he needs to be playing there, whether it's a case for Joe Schmidt to go to Leo and say, 'I want to see him in those games where he's not playing' to maybe leapfrog over Ross [Byrne]. But you could understand why Ross would nearly be upset because he's been playing quite well. It would be really interesting to see could we use the four provinces. Like, is there an opening in one of the other provinces there to allow a quality 10 like that to come in. But I think the more professional it gets and the more we go on in time, I think that will happen more and more that players will play with other provinces to get a chance because you could be blocked."

But he also pointed out that with Carbery training with Sexton day in day out, "he's around the best 10 in Europe" which provides another opportunity to learn the position.

And overall, he feels, "I think it would be brilliant for Ireland if we had someone of his class playing 10 more often. I think we definitely need more competition in that spot".

Chuckling, Keith also jokingly quipped that it was "great sh*t-stirring by Eddie".

Keith and Donncha also discussed their experience of playing with the Barbarians and the benefits of being involved with the Baa-Baas.
