"Bodies are sore but also people's pride" - Sophie Spence on Ireland's disappointing World Cup

"I sat down a week later and watched the Wales game. It was the only game I hadn't seen from analysing the other games and it was just something I had to do to put to bed."

Ultimately, the Rugby World Cup on home soil proved to be a disappointment for Sophie Spence and her Ireland team-mates as the side finished 8th following the loss to Wales, having missed out on the latter stages beforehand.

But speaking to Oisin Langan in Tullow, Spence accentuated some of positives from the tournament off the pitch.

"I think the one positive we can take out of it is the fact that the exposure of the tournament was run extremely well and the fact that we can hopefully get more girls playing," she said.

"You see people who want to be the next generation of Irish internationals or provincial players and they're hungry for that and they can see that. So that's fantastic."

Spence also touched on the negatives from the tournament on the field as Ireland struggled.

"Unfortunately it wasn't the overall performance in the tournament that we wanted either and it's extremely disappointing," she said.

"I can't quite put my finger on what it was. I don't think it was one thing. I think there were a number of things that got us to that point. I think it's just unfortunate that the performance didn't come out on the day and we had to just change our style of rugby on the day to try and get over the line."

She added that: "Bodies are sore but also people's pride".

Bank of Ireland and Leinster Rugby have today announced a five year extension of their sponsorship through to the 2023 season.

The event was held in Tullow RFC, Tullow are the current holders of the Bank of Ireland Provincial Towns Cup.

In addition to exclusive branding of all playing and training kits for the Leinster Rugby professional team, the sponsorship continues to encompass all Leinster rugby activity right through to grassroots community, schools and club level
