Russia's Yuliya Stepanova given permission to compete at Rio 2016

With less than two months to go, it looks like Russia's athletics team will not be allowed to compete in the Olympic Games due to a number of doping violations.

Despite that, a small number of Russian athletes may take to the track in the Estadio Olímpico Joao Havelange in Rio de Janeiro, but without their national colours.

Yuliya Stepanova was one of the whistle-blowers that blew open the faults at RUSADA, which caused the indefinite ban for Russian athletes being allowed compete in international competition.

"Having made a truly exceptional contribution to the protection and promotion of clean athletes, fair play and the integrity and authenticity of the sport", the IAAF said in a statement, "Ms Stepanova is now eligible to compete in International Competitions as an independent neutral athlete."

Stepanova may now also be allowed compete at the European Championships next week in neutral colours in Amsterdam.
