Rwandan FA bans witchcraft during football matches

The Rwandan Football Association has banned witchcraft during football matches after a number of incidents in recent weeks.

The new ruling comes after a bizarre incident involving Rayon Sports striker Moussa Camara after he appeared to preform a ritual in a match against Mukura Victory.

Camara ran towards the opposition goal as the keeper collected the ball on the edge of the box. The striker laid an object beside the posts before being chased off by the Mukura defence. He was even booked for his trouble.

Minutes later he scored from long range and the game finished 1-1.

The national association have moved to stop such incidents and now will fine any player involved a reported 100,000 Rwandan Francs (roughly €116).

Any club involved could face a fine of up to 2.9 million Rwandan Francs (roughly €3,370).

The Mirror is reporting that Vedaste Kayiranga, the vice president of the Rwanda FA said: “In FERWAFA (Federation of Rwanda Football Association) statutes we don’t have any law punishing the use of witchcraft because there is nowhere in the world where it has been proven that it can influence the outcome of a game.

“However, with the violence between players because of allegations that one team is using it, we have decided to enact laws."
