Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn not surprised at talent flocking to French Open

European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn says he's not surprised to see potential players for his team next year compete at this week's French Open.

It's being held at the same Paris course that'll host the clash with America and says he'd hoped the chance to get a look at the layout would be appealing.

"A few of the extra guys pitched up this week to get to know the golf course more than anything in case they're in the team," he told Sky.

"That's an extra positive, but I always think why wouldn't you come to Paris and want to play this golf course."

Speaking ahead of the tournament, former major winner and French Open champion Martin Kaymer said that the course was challenging to play on.

"I think it's very exciting for us players, for the entire tournament," he said. "Even though when you're two or three shots behind, you kind of like still fancy your chance on Sunday afternoon because a lot can happen there.

"You can attack or you can play defensive, and you can make from birdies to double, triple-bogey, and I think that's always a great finish for a golf tournament."
