Saido Berhaino failed a drugs test this season

Saido Berahino signed a five-and-a-half year deal with Stoke City last month, after moving from West Brom.

The 23-year-old struggled to feature at The Hawthorns this season. Berahino only played four times for the club in the league, but it was assumed he was not being picked due to fitness and weight issues.

It has been revealed that Berahino failed to feature for West Brom, for long stages in the season, due to failing a drugs test. The Daily Mail revealed that he tested positive for a recreational drug in September.

Berahino was an unused sub for West Brom on October 1st against Sunderland in the Premier League. His next game came on December 12th for West Brom's Under-23 team against Wolves Under-23s.

The FA does not name players who failed a drugs test for recreational usage, and offer the player rehabilitation. Drugs like cocaine and cannabis are not banned in out-of-competition testing.

Despite moving to Stoke last month, the club were aware of Berahino's reported failed test. This weekend, he may make his first start for Mark Hughes' team. Stoke travel the short distance to The Hawthorns to play Berahino's old club West Brom.
