Seamus McEnaney looks set to be named as Cavan manager

Seamus McEnaney is the favourite to take over the hot seat in Cavan as they look to replace Terry Hyland.

Hyland left the job as county manager in August, despite leading the side up to Division One in the National League. However, a disappointing championship campaign, featuring a heavy defeat to Tyrone in the Ulster semi-final replay, lead to him sounding out the players on the next step for the team.

Citing work commitments, among other issues, Hyland stepped down, but it appears that the wait for a new manager may be over as The Belfast Telegraph report that McEnaney will be in place within the next 48 hours.

The Monaghan native previously outlined to the paper that "a lot of boxes need to be ticked" if he is going to take an inter-county job, and Cavan may well suit what he's hoping to achieve.

"The quality of players needs to be available and every single player must be committed to representing the county," said McEnaney, adding that "the facilities also need to be available."

McEnaney has previously managed both Meath and Monaghan, and will hope that he can guide Cavan to Ulster success, after falling at the final hurdle with his native county during his spell in charge there.
