Ireland's Seamus Power has catapulted himself into contention at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis.

The Irishman shot a second round of five-under and now trails the leaders by three shots going into the weekend.

Starting on the back-nine, Power birdied the 10th and followed it up with another on the 13th. A dropped shot on the 14th didn't halt his momentum as he birdied the par-5 16th.

A string of birdies on the second, third and fourth holes brought him home in 65.

He sits three off the lead shared by Chez Reavie, Sebastion Munoz and Charl Schwartzel on nine-under.

Stewart Cink is a shot back on eight-under with Ben Crane a further shot behind.

Power is joined on six-under by Matt Jones, Trey Mullinax, Retief Goosen and Matt Every.

Other notable scores include Adam Scott on five-under with Graeme McDowell on two-under.
