Shane Lowry and his wife Wendy are expecting a baby next year.
The pair wedded in April of this year and are due to welcome their first child in February. Lowry, who played at nine PGA events this year, made the announcement to broadcaster Denis Kirwan recently.
THe 29-year-old said:
"I don't know if many people even know this yet, but I might as well tell you - Wendy is expecting a baby so we're having our first kid at the end of February.
"That'll be nice. I'm going to play a few weeks in a row and then take some time off when we're having the baby, then I'll be back for Augusta."
Lowry came agonisingly close to scooping a win at the US Open this year. The Offaly man held a four stroke lead heading into the final day but his challenge was scuppered by four bogeys in the first 10 holes. Lowry was also omitted from Darren Clarke's Ryder Cup selection with Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood and Thomas Pieters taking the captain's picks.
On a more positive note, Lowry did land a hole in one at the Masters and the news of a new arrival to the family next year, definitely means his 2016 ends on a high.
