Shane Lowry helps Europe into a commanding lead at the EurAsia Cup

Europe lead Asia 4-5-1.5 at the end of the first day of the EurAsia Cup.

Shane Lowry won his opening game with teammate Andy Sullivan. The European duo defeated Shingo Katayama and Ashun Wu 2&1.

After falling behind on the third hole, Lowry and Sullivan took advantage on the fifth and stayed ahead for the rest of the match. Afterwards, Lowry spoke about how happy he was to play with Sullivan.  "It's quite nice when you're not out on the golf course by yourself and you have someone to bounce off. I think myself and Andy are a good team."

Europe's other wins on the opening day came from a mixture of familiar and new faces. Ian Poulter and Bernd Weisberger won the opening match of the day beating Anirban Lahiri and Jeung Hun Wang 4&3.

The biggest win of the opening day came from Ross Fisher and Kristoffer Broberg. They were 6&4 winners over Prayad Marksaeng and KT Kim.

Lee Westwood and Chris Wood won the final point of the day for Europe. They defeated SSP Chawrasia and Kiradich Aphibarnrat 2&1.

After a positive opening day for Europe in the fourballs, the foursomes take place tomorrow. Lowry and Sullivan have been paired together again. They will face Katayama once more. This time the Japanese player has been paired with Prayad Marksaeng.
