Shane Lowry finished tied for 42nd at the Wyndham Championship which now means that England's Andy Sullivan has secured a place in golf's European Ryder Cup team.

The Englishman has become the final automatic qualifier for Darren Clarke's European team after Ireland's Lowry finishes outside the top four in North Carolina.

Lowry finished on 8-under after four rounds.

Meanwhile, Sullivan joins fellow rookie Matthew Fitzpatrick at the tournament against the USA in Hazeltine next month.

The four leading players on the Ryder Cup European Points list and the five leading on the Ryder Cup World Points list qualify automatically.

On August 29th, Clarke is due to announce three captain's picks.

Lowry is 14th on the European Points list and 16th on the World Points list.

The nine automatic qualifiers for Team Europe are Rory McIlroy, Danny Willett, Henrik Stenson, Chris Wood, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Andy Sullivan.
