Skibbereen will host a special homecoming celebration for the O'Donovan brothers

Two of Ireland's Olympic stars will be given a special homecoming later this month when Skibbereen, and likely most of Cork, will turn out to give them a hero's welcome.

Gary and Paul O'Donovan won silver in the men's lightweight double sculls, which is an amazing achievement that surely would have seen them getting plenty of media attention anyway, but they were thrust even further into the limelight thanks to a series of hugely entertaining interviews throughout their path to glory.

In the wake of their win, they somewhat correctly guessed that their home town of Skibbereen shut down as they watched the final, along with the rest of Team Ireland who celebrated like mad when the pair crossed the finish line in second place.

While there were surely parties in the Olympic Village for the pair afterwards, their local rowing club also announced plans for a homecoming celebration for Paul and Gary which promises to feature shteak, shpuds, and plenty of craic.

The celebration will take place at the end of the month, with further details on what events will take place to be released soon.

Off the back of the success of their Olympians, the club have also launched a fundraising venture in the form of special t-shirts celebrating the silver medal win, with the goal of helping them to produce the next generation of medal winners.

Presumably they'll be teaching them to pull like a dog with the money raised...
