Slaven Bilic talks openly about rumours linking West Ham with move for Daniel Sturridge

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has signalled his interest in Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

The Hammers have made a poor start to the season and sit 17th in the Premier League table, just one point and one place above the relegation zone.

The club who are getting accustomed to their new London Stadium home have lacked a regular goalscorer this season.

Their top scoring strikers this season are Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho with one goal each.

Top scorer overall is right-sided midfielder and full-back Michail Antonio who has scored six headed goals this season.

Meanwhile, Sturridge is not first choice at Liverpool this season. When fit, the Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane combination forms the front three, with Divock Origi preferred when one of the fluid front trio is unavailable.

Bilic admits that Sturridge has been linked with West Ham but remained coy on a possible move for the England striker.

"He's one of the biggest talents, he's a great player. The talent is there, the touch, the finishing, everything is great," Bilic told Sky Sports.

"The only thing that has stopped him being a regular for club and country are the injuries. He's just a player that has been linked with us, basically, and we've been linked with almost every player. We're always there in contention. Most of the time it's absolutely not true, 95 per cent of the time."

Bilic added that "all the clubs are thinking about him because he is that kind of player".

Last week Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had insisted that Sturridge and others would not be leaving Anfield.

"There is absolutely no thought to sell any player from the first-team squad. I don’t think it would make sense. Unfortunately Daniel is not in training now and that is what I am more concerned about than any transfer rumours — but I am prepared for everything you could ask me in January," he said.
