Sligo Rovers confirm Gerard Lyttle appointment

Sligo Rovers have confirmed the appointment of Gerard Lyttle as the League of Ireland Premier Division club's new manager.

The former Cliftonville boss succeeds Dave Robertson in the role, having resigned as manager of the Danske Bank Premiership club on Friday.

Sligo have revealed that Lyttle will be unveiled at a press conference at the Clayton Hotel on Saturday afternoon.

"Gerard joins us with a good track record from his time with Cliftonville. He is ambitious and eager to bring success to Sligo Rovers. Gerard shares the vision we have for the club," said club chairman Martin Heraghty.

Lyttle, who has signed a contract until the end of the 2018 season, will take charge of his first Sligo game on Friday, April 28th for an away trip to Drogheda United.

The 39 year old led Cliftonville to League Cup glory in Northern Ireland in February 2016, having taken the reins as manager in October 2015.

Sligo Rovers started this weekend's League of Ireland action second from bottom of the Premier Division after a poor start to the season, which contributed to the departure of Robertson.

They face Derry City at the Showgrounds on Saturday in a 7.45pm kick off.
