Keith Andrews says Wes Hoolahan ireland now have on one like Wes Hoolohan in their side.

The Norwich City midfielder announced his retirement from international football this morning.

Andrews also says his game would have improved if Hoolahan had of started alongside him more often in the international side.

The former Blackburn Rovers man only played alongside Hoolahan a handful of times, but says he appreciated the intricate style of play Hoolohan had, especially in tight spaces against higher-level opposition.

Andrew’s pointed in particular to Ireland’s game against Spain, when Hoolahan wasn’t included in Giovanni Trappatoni’ squad for the European Championships in 2012.

“Wes came on. I think it was halftime. I came on a sub early. I think Glenn Whelan got injured, and straight away that extra man in midfield, and that ability to find them in those little extra spaces – makes your life so much easier.’

Andrew’s also added that managers need to have a certain balance in their side, to accommodate certain players.

“You have to find those players with quality in the final third of the pitch. It can change the whole sway of the team but it depends on what way your manager wants to set you up.”

Andrew's doesn't believe Ireland have anyone else that plays in the same manner as Hoolahan.

"We got no one else like Wes Hoolahan. We really don't."

Hoolahan was capped 43 times by his country over an 11-year period.
