"I'm not sure he's the man to do it" - First impressions of Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace

No goals and no points. They're the headline statistics for Crystal Palace five games into the new Premier League season.

But if the Eagles wanted a chance to bounce back after today's 1-0 home defeat to Southampton in their first game since ex-England manager Roy Hodgson took over following the brief 77-day spell under Frank de Boer, it's unlikely to come in their next few fixtures.

Trips away to the two Manchester clubs are next up in their league schedule, followed by a home game against reigning champions Chelsea.

Former Arsenal and West Ham midfielder Stewart Robson was watching proceedings at Selhurst Park and he joined Nathan this evening to the changes that Hodgson has implemented so far.

"Well, it was very basic, the style of football that Roy Hodgson was trying to implement at Crystal Palace today, which we expect from Roy Hodgson. He's not the most adventurous of managers," he said.

"They just had a bank and they tried to get the midfield players behind the ball and they didn't do particularly well. They didn't close the ball down well enough. It was too easy for Southampton's midfield players to run the game."

He added that Hodgson "needs to get more out of his team and I'm not sure he's the man to do it".

Robson also described it as a "very dull appointment" from Palace. But he also felt it was a "poor decision" to bring De Boer to Palace in the first place as the Dutch style of football has become "old fashioned" as proven by the Netherlands' international and club performances.

"They could have looked elsewhere to change their style of play," he said.
