West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis says midfielder James McClean needs to watch his temper.
The Ireland international was at the centre of a shoving match over his tackle on Watford's Roberto Pereyra last weekend in the Premier League which saw his opponent sent off and the Derry man receive a yellow card.
Both clubs have been charged with failing to control their players.
Either way, Pulis wants McClean to control his behaviour on the pitch.
"I think James has got to control himself and he understands that. Sometimes he does live on the edge but that's the player he is and the person he is," said the former Stoke City manager.
"He's a fantastic lad and he's competitive - and you want him to be - but he's got to realise there is a line that you draw and sometimes he goes very close to that line. Does it take stuff away from him? It might do, I'm not sure. But I've spoken to him quite a few times about getting too close to that line."
But overall, Pulis does like the winger's attitude.
"As I keep saying, he's a fantastic lad and a good lad around the place. The perception of him outside the club is different to what people inside the club who know him well think," he said.
McClean has been in excellent form at international level for Ireland.
His goal in Vienna gave Ireland a crucial away win in a World Cup qualifier in November.
That was just a month after his double against Moldova helped the Boys in Green win 3-1 in Chisinau.
McClean was a squad member at Euro 2016 and was also part of the 23 that travelled to Poland for Euro 2012.
He has been at West Brom since 2015 when he signed from Wigan Athletic after a two year spell there.
