Speith exorcised Masters' demons at Pebble Beach

Jordan Speith says winning at Pebble Beach last weekend helped him exorcise some of the demons after his Masters' meltdown last year.

The young Texan held a commanding lead going into the final round of the 2016 Masters at Augusta only to suffer a dramatic collapse and lose out to Danny Willett.

Approaching the the 10th tee during his final round, the American held a five shot lead with nine holes left to play.

Spieth went bogey, bogey, quadruple bogey as the defence of his Masters' title unravelled before his eyes.

Speaking to the New York Times after winning last weekend, he said: “It was definitely in the back of my head all day, you have that voice in your head that says: ‘Who cares what anybody else says or thinks? We just do what we do.’

"But, obviously, that round was going to be on my brain because it was the most recent lead that we had. If I didn’t hold this one, what kind of repercussions would that have?” he added.

The 2017 Masters takes place from the 6th-9th April at Augusta National in Georgia.
