St Pat's teen talent signs for Birmingham City

St Patrick's Athletic defender Ryan Burke has signed for Birmingham City on a two-year deal.

The 16-year-old will link up with the Championship side in July, having impressed at trials.

Burke played a key role in his side's triumph in the SEE Airtricity League U17 Northern Elite Division title. Prior to the move to Pat's, he also enjoyed stints at Crumlin United and St Joseph's Boys.

Speaking to St Pat's Twitter account, a delighted Burke said:

"I've been working hard for it over the last few years, but the last year I've put in a lot of hard work and I'm just really pleased that it's come off and I have a big move over, and it's going to be a big two years for me."

"It's only really starting to sink in now, that I'm going to be moving away from my family and friends. But, it's something that I've always wanted to do since I was younger so I'm really happy that I've got the opportunity now. I'm just going to work as hard as I can now and hopefully, make the most of it."

He added:

"Pat's has been great. Since I came here, all the lads have made me feel welcome. I've just really enjoyed my time here.

"Winning the league last year was just a big highlight as well, starting every game was a bonus. I'm just really happy."

Burke will be joining former St Jospeh's player Joe Redmond at the Blues, who made the move last year. Redmond played regularly for the Under 18s last season, according to the Birmingham Mail.
