Stephen Ferris says Elliot Daly could make the bench for first New Zealand Test

British and Irish Lions head coach Warren Gatland is likely to be telling his players this morning whether they've been picked for Saturday's opening Test with New Zealand.

The line-up will be announced at 8pm this evening and a number of players have made a late case for selection after the Lions' 34-6 win over the Chiefs on Tuesday morning.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former Ireland international Stephen Ferris says Elliot Daly's performance on the wing will give Gatland food for thought.

"Seeing Elliot Daly coming off with 20 minutes to go - I know he had to come back on again - would be an indicator for me that he's possibly going to make the bench for the Test team," he said.

Assistant Lions coach Graham Rowntree confirmed several fringe players have put their hand up to be selected for for the first Test and Rowntree says the management team have got to make some huge calls.

"It was always going to be a big debate. With the quality of this squad, there was always going to be a big debate. Even after last night, those guys could be right up again at the weekend if they wanted to."
