Stephen Rochford "extremely disappointed" by Mayo display

Mayo manager Stephen Rochford has not hidden his disappointment after watching his side get comprehensively out played by Dublin in their Allianz League Division One clash.

In a repeat of the 2016 All Ireland final and replay, when Mayo came so close to ending their long quest for Sam Maguire, tonight's league clash was one sided as the Dubs secured a 1-16 to 0-7 victory over the Connacht team.

Speaking to Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan at full time in Croke Park, Rochford admitted he was "extremely disappointed" by what Mayo served up in a match where victory could have provided a psychological boost.

"We were beaten in most areas of the field tonight. That's what's very, very disappointing," he said.

"We were beaten in most areas of the field as a I said and Dublin played very much on the front foot. That certainly would have been very much our aim. We never got to the pitch of the game for whatever reason that is.

"We just need to go away and review that but it's not a reflection of what this team is about. Look, we will have better performances over the next number of weeks and months. But tonight is extremely disappointing."

He added that "it certainly was a non performance" and felt Dublin were far more "ruthless" in attack in comparison to Mayo, especially in the first half.

But he is hopeful some of the younger players involved can learn from the game.
