Successful night in European rugby for Irish provinces

Ulster and Connacht were both victorious in their European matches tonight as the former defeated Toulouse in comprehensive fashion 38-0 while Connacht defeated the Newcastle Falcons 25-10 at the Sportsground.

Ulster scored five tries on their way to a 38-0 triumph over four-time champions Toulouse. They have played two, won one and lost one of their Champions Cup games so far and sit on 5 points in second place behind Saracens. Nick Williams, Andrew Trimble, Luke Marshall, Stuart McCloskey and Chris Henry were the try scorers for Ulster during their win at Kingspan Stadium.

It was the perfect remedy following their opening round defeat to Saracens and the win gives Ulster a chance in the hunt for a place in the knockout stages.

Connacht have now played three and won three of the Challenge Cup games and sit in first place of their pool and seven points ahead of Newcastle Falcons.

Jack Carty won the man of the match award as he out kicked his counterpart Craig Willis with six penalties to Willis' one. Danie Poolman scored a late try to give Connacht some breathing room and Carty kicked the conversion to leave the score 25-10 with Connacht asserting further control on Pool 1 of the Challenge Cup.

Leinster play Toulon tomorrow at 4.15 and Munster take on the Leicester Tigers in Thomond Park at 7.45.
