Sunderland emerge as potential destination for Darron Gibson

Ireland international midfielder Darron Gibson has been linked with a move to Premier League strugglers Sunderland.

The Everton midfielder is down the pecking order at Goodison Park in manager Ronald Koeman's first season in charge.

Injury affected the 29 year old Derry native at the start of the season.

Gibson has not made a single appearance in the Premier League this season and aside from 24 minutes of action against Yeovil Town in the EFL Cup, the midfielder has not played at all or been in a matchday squad.

Over the three previous seasons, Gibson had only made a total of 17 appearances in the Premier League.

Yet he had signed a new Everton deal taking him through to 2018.

The Daily Mail report that the 27 time Ireland cap is a January transfer window target for Sunderland.

Current Black Cats manager David Moyes was the one who originally brought him to Everton from Manchester United in 2012.

The Mail has also suggested Moyes is interested in signing left sided Everton and Costa Rica player Brian Oviedo.

Moyes has already signed an ex-Evertonian in January, in the shape of former England defender Joleon Lescott who had left Greek side AEK Athens in the first half of the season.
