Sunderland equal lowest ever points tally after 10 games following defeat to Arsenal

Sunderland's heavy defeat at home to Arsenal on Saturday afternoon consigned them to the history books with one of the least desirable records in English top flight history.

David Moyes side move alongside Manchester City having tallied the lowest number of points after 10 games, with just two draws and eight defeats.

The record would be the same as that of City in their 1995 season, but for Alexis Sanchez's goal at the Stadium of Light leaving their goal difference on -13, one worse than of City's 1995 season.

Asked after the game whether Sunderland made it "too easy" for Arsenal to score goals he said: "Ultimately we did, but I don't think we did up until around 70 minutes into the game.

"Arsenal were very good in the opening part of the game and they made it very difficult. But we hung in and stayed in the game. We actually grew into the game in the second half and we deservedly got ourselves back into the game with an equaliser.

"I think for us to lose two goals from crosses, the first and second goal, is really disappointing... I thought the players gave everything they had. I thought they showed it in their effort and commitment on the pitch.

"The gulf in quality was showing at times but for 70 minutes we tried to make it as equal as we possibly could. Just later on in the game we were unable to stick with it."
