Superbowl beer and wine prices make for sobering reading

Superbowl 50 took place over night with the Denver Broncos emerging victorious in a scrappy, defence-dominated affair.

Off the pitch concession prices at California's Levis Stadium caused a stir.

Fans were asked to fork out between $15 and $25 (€22.41) for a glass of wine and $15 (€13.45) for a draft beer and $13 (€11.65) for a bottle.

The food wasn't much cheaper with crab sandwiches retailing for $20 and soft drinks and bottled water costing $7.

Budweiser has said that it did not pay winning quarter back Peyton Manning to tell reporters that he was planning to "drink a lot of Budweiser" after securing his second Super Bowl ring.

A spokesperson said that the brand, which is one of the NFL's commercial partners, "did not pay Peyton Manning to mention Budweiser tonight. We were surprised and delighted that he did."
