Teddy Sheringham sacked as manager of Stevenage

Teddy Sheringham's time in charge at Stevenage has come to an end after a run of games that leaves his side in 19th position in the League Two table.

The former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur striker took charge in the summer, but has managed just six wins from his 29 games in the league so far this term.

In a statement on the club website, chairman Phil Wallace said "Teddy has had the worst luck I’ve seen in the 16 years I’ve owned the football club. Normally we’d have one or two major ops on key players in a season but we’ve had more this season than the last three combined".

Wallace added that the club "had to make a change", but that "Teddy came in having to work on a lower budget than we’ve had before and the lack of available funds has made it difficult to get the players he’d like. He’s given it his all but it hasn’t worked and now we have to thank him for his efforts and move on".

Darren Sarll, first team coach, will take over as manager as the club look to fill the vacancy, but the club have been busy in the transfer window too, as former League of Ireland man Patrick Hoban has joined up with the squad on loan.

Hoban had been playing for Oxford United, but was finding it difficult to break into the starting side there. According to The42.ie, he may be in line to make his debut for the side against Crawley Town this weekend.
