The Twitter reaction to the half-time show at Super Bowl 50

It's the marquee showpiece of one of the biggest annual sports events in the world, but on this occasion the reviews were mixed.

Rock group Coldplay were appointed the task of chief entertainer for this year's Super Bowl 50 while Beyoncé and Bruno Mars were intended to be their back-up acts.

Coldplay opened the set with renditions of Viva La Vida and Adventure of a Lifetime followed by Bruno Mars and a fleet of dancers belting out the 2015 hit song Uptown Funk.

Beyoncé picked up the performance from there, wearing a costume which paid homage to the deceased Michael Jackson on the night he performed at the Super Bowl in 1993.

She performed her new track Formation and the trio later reconvened on stage to conclude the ensemble with a few final bars of Uptown Funk.

Here's how Twitter assessed the 2016 Super Bowl half-time acts.
