"The vast majority of United fans have had enough" - Andy Mitten on Louis van Gaal's future at Manchester United

Manchester United travel to Derby County this evening, with the general feeling around Old Trafford that manager Louis van Gaal is on borrowed time.

Rumours circulated this week that the Dutchman had offered his resignation to Ed Woodward following their one-nil home defeat to Southampton, but he has since denied such reports and insists that he will see out the remainder of his contract with United.

Andy Mitten, editor with fanzine United We Stand, joined Off The Ball on Friday night ahead of the fixture and gave an indication of the feeling around the manager and the club at the moment.

"The mood has been absolutely rotten this week after the defeat at home to Southampton," he said, "And the case for him staying is not really present by the vast majority of Manchester United fans, they've simply had enough.

"The football hasn't been good enough, the results have been slightly better, but still nowhere near good enough. As we stand, United are still in the FA Cup and it's a competition that means a lot to fans.

"It provided the highlight United's decade in the 70s and 80s, before a time when the team actually won league titles. If there's a good cup run it'll be a real bonus because they haven't reached the final since 2007 and not won it since 2004."
