There could be an unexpected late "bolter" into Schmidt's World Cup squad

Tadgh Furlong could be the surprise name to make into the Ireland World Cup squad.

Head coach Joe Schmidt names his 31-man selection tomorrow and the Irish Independent rugby correspondent Ruaidhri O'Connor suggests that Leinster prop Furlong may have jumped the queue to make it into the squad.

O'Connor says Schmidt is set to go with five props with Furlong to provide a third option behind Mike Ross and Nathan White at tighthead. That means Marty Moore and Michael Bent will miss out on the World Cup.

Furlong made his Ireland debut in Saturday's 16-10 home defeat to Wales.

Meanwhile, O'Connor also believes Schmidt will take the risk of bringing just two scrum-halves to the World Cup (Conor Murray and Eoin Reddan) rather than three.
