"They were like a team that had given up" - Johnny Ward on Cork City

Johnny Ward, Dan McDonnell and Kenny Cunningham joined Nathan On Saturday's Off the Ball to discuss all the weekend's football action.

Dundalk took a big step towards winning the SSE Airticity League after a 1-0 win over Cork City at Turner's Cross and Ward vented his frustration at the Leesider's demise.

"I think this Cork City side is a good team but I just don't like the way they play football. They won the league because they had Sean Maguire. Now, they won the cup without Sean Maguire but Cork City after he left last season were playing in the manner of a team that would be in a relegation scrap. Their performances completely tailed off.

"They started this season and I backed them to win the league - I thought they'd have enough about them with Sadlier coming in and McNamee but I watched them earlier in the season at home to Sligo and I honestly couldn't believe how direct they were at home to Sligo, who'd be a struggling team.

"And, their last 6 games, including Europe, they haven't scored a single goal. They've been extremely negative in the way they have approached games and to me last night, the players collectively and individually, were just not at it at all.

"There looked like there was a deep malaise there. Now all this kind of stuff about potential unrest in the camp is, kind of, hear-say.

"Dundalk are not superstars but Dundalk never got out of second gear last night. Cork didn't lay a glove on them - they really didn't lay a glove on them.

"At the moment, if Shamrock Rovers were playing Cork at neutral venue - Shamrock Rovers would be favourites. Bohs are playing Cork in the cup so it'll be interesting to see how that works out.

"Cork at the moment are a bottom six side the way they are playing."
