Tiger Woods wants to play a full schedule in 2017, after comeback

Tiger Woods' comeback ended on a whimper on Sunday night in The Bahamas.

The 14-time major winner shot a 76 in the final round of the Hero World Challenge, to finish in 15th place. Woods' comeback event saw him finish ahead of Russell Knox and Emiliano Grillo at Albany.

Woods finished 14 shots behind the winner Hideki Matsuyama, despite scoring two more birdies over the course of the four rounds. The 40-year-old said he has work to do on his game ahead of 2017.

"This golf course allows one to be aggressive, but also I made some bad mistakes. For instance, today I had two sevens. You can't make two sevens. And 18, another double there. Three doubles today just adds up to a pretty high number. On the flip side is that I was able to be aggressive and made some birdies, made some putts and just need to balance it out."

Although he is already named as a vice-captain for next year's President's Cup, Woods hopes to play a full schedule on the PGA Tour in 2017.

"I'll consider a lot of things, but I would like in my heart of hearts to play a full schedule next year... The good thing is is that because I have been away for so long, that everything I do here, I just keep accruing points. Nothing's falling off. So if I play halfway decent, I'll keep climbing quickly, and if I happen to have a couple wins in there, I'll jump really fast."

Woods does not know when he will tee up in 2017 for the first time, but he expects the early months of the year to focus on trying to regain The Masters title.

"I'll have a couple weeks here off, work with my physios. Get a little bit stronger, put the weight back on that I lost when I got sick and then really assess, okay, what's the plan, what's the smart plan here, how much we can play on the west coast, how much we can play in Florida leading to the Masters, what is the plan leading to Augusta."

The comeback showed flashes of brilliance, but Woods still has a long way to go. His 15th placed finish also helped improve Woods' world ranking from 898th to 642nd.
