The Kasumigaseki Country Club in Tokyo, Japan has voted to admit women as full members ahead of its hosting of the 2020 Olympic Golf tournament.

There had been speculation that the course would be stripped of the event due to its position of female membership.

President of the game's organising committee Yoshiro Mori said:  On behalf of the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, I'd like to extend my gratitude to the members of the club for their understanding and cooperation.

I also would like to express my admiration for the club's endeavour to come to an agreement in such a short period of time."

The vote comes just days after Muirfield in Scotland voted to allow female members.
