Tommy Dunne is hoping that his Galway United side do not suffer from second-season syndrome in the Premier League this season.
Galway were promoted to the Premier Division last season and finished in tenth place, two points ahead of the relegation play-off. The Westerners lost 20 games last season in the league and Dunne is hoping to change that this year.
"We want to be competive. We felt we weren't competive enough last year. We lost the most games and want to change that this year. We want to be higher up the table. We want to be closer in chasing trophies."
The team's highlight of 2015 was when they reached the League Cup final and played at home against St Patrick's Athletic in a packed Eamon Deacy Park. Dunne wants to see those crowds return on a more rgular basis.

"When a team is performing and producing the fans will come out. From our side of things we would wish and hope that those fans would come out on a more regular basis. For the club to be able to build and to be more competitive, we need those fans coming through the gate."
Dunne has made 11 signings in the off-season including defender Stephen Folan, Vinny Faherty and Kevin Devaney and he hopes the overall strenghting of the squad will help eliminate the mistakes of last season.
"There was a lot of learning curves last year for the team. We're better prepared as a team this season. We are better prepared physically and mentally. It was a big learning curve last year and I hope this year will show we have learned a lot."
Galway begin their Premier League campaign away to St Patrick's Athletic on Friday night.
