Tony Cousins steps down as Longford Town manager

Tony Cousins has stepped down as the manager of Longford Town with immediate effect following a 2-0 defeat to Wexford Youths last night.

The former Bohs and Rovers player took charge of the side in 2009 and got them promoted last season but their first year back in the Premier Division has not gone as planned. They were beaten by Shamrock Rovers last week and suffered a 2-0 defeat on Friday night to make it a severe uphill battle to keep his charges in the top flight of Irish football.

They are currently five points off their opponents last night with Bray Wanderers a further 10 points out of sight.

He was the longest serving manager in the league.
