Tributes paid following the death of former GAA president Jack Boothman

Former president of the GAA, Jack Boothman, has died.

Boothman served as president of the GAA between 1994 and 1997 and was an active member of Blessington GAA club in Wicklow where he remained club president.

Boothman fought for the abolition of Rule 21, which debarred members of the British forced from joining the Association.

"We sadly learned this morning of the passing of our lifetime member, former player, Club official in several capacities and present Club Trustee, Jack Boothman" the club wrote on their official website.

"We were immensely proud of his achievements nationally and I know he took huge pride in his own Club, none more evident than when we hosted last years Feile.

"As a mark of respect we are closing the pitches and the facilities for the rest of the week.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."

Boothman was succeeded by Joe McDonagh as president in 1997.
