Lionel Messi might have won the Ballon D'Or award tonight but it was Cristiano Ronaldo who was Robbie Keane's No 1 pick for the award.

The Ireland captain is eligible to vote as national team skipper and went for Ronaldo as his top choice, followed by Messi and fellow final shortlist member Neymar.

Keane also picked Ronaldo in last year's voting.

His choice differed from Ireland manager Martin O'Neill for a second year running as the Derryman picked Messi again as his No 1 choice ahead of Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

Ronaldo was O'Neill's third choice.

The Portugal captain was also Wayne Rooney's third choice, with the Manchester United skipper picking Messi as No 1 and Bayern Munich's Thomas Muller as runner up.
