Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova injured in knife attack

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has been injured in a knife attack at her home in the Czech Republic.

Karel Tejkal, a spokesperson for the player, says she suffered an injury to her left hand and has been treated by doctors.

The incident is being described as a burglary on Tuesday morning in the eastern Czech town of Prostejov.

Mr Tejkal told Czech news agency CTK: "It was a random criminal act. She was assaulted in her apartment and is in the care of doctors, but her injuries are not life threatening."

Mr Tejkal reported the burglar has yet to be apprehended.

Czech media has reported the assailant made off with 5000 Czech Koruna (£155).

Ms Kvitova is currently recovering from a fractured foot and recently withdrew from the Hopman Cup mixed-team tournament in January.

Earlier this year, she won bronze at the Olympic Games in Rio after beating Madison Keys.
