Tyson Fury withdrawn from title defence because of depression

Tyson Fury has been pulled from his heavyweight title defence against Wladimir Klitschko next month because he is suffering from depression, a report has claimed.

The Telegraph reports that the rematch, which was originally supposed to take place in July, will not go ahead as camp insiders have claimed that 28-year-old is suffering from depression.

The announcement that the fight would not go ahead came on Friday night to the dismay and frustration of boxing fans around the world. Those involved with Fury's camp told the paper that he is currently seeking treatment for the condition.

The boxer failed to attend a press conference in the build up to the fight earlier this month and his camp issued a statement on Friday to say simply that he was "medically unfit" to fight.

It went on to say - without referring to what the issue was - that his condition was "too severe to allow him to participate in the rematch and that he will require treatment before going back into the ring".

The statement added: "Tyson will now immediately undergo the treatment he needs to make a full recovery."
