UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez has signalled his intention to defend his crown against Conor McGregor, as the Irishman looks to become the first two-weight world champion to hold two titles concurrently in the promotion.
Alvarez, who dethroned Rafael Dos Anjos in July at UFC Fight Night Dos Anjos vs. Alvarez, took to Twitter to call out the featherweight champion as rumours intensify that the pair will meet at UFC 205 in New York.
McGregor, 28, comes off the back of a majority decision victory against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 in Las Vegas last month. He and the Stockton fighter went five gruelling rounds and 25 minutes of action, before McGregor was crowned the winner.
There had been fears that he may have broken his foot during the bout as he utilized leg kicks to stifle his opponent. However, it appears he may be fit and ready to fight at in New York and Alvarez has made no secret that he wants the fight.
"Let's do this @TheNotoriousMMA I'm ready!!" he tweeted on Tuesday night. "Your futures not bright enjoy this one while it last. #ItsAllOver"

McGregor's last fight against Diaz set new records for most amount of PPV buys in company history and their pair of fights (UFC 202 and UFC 196 back in March) hold top spot for most PPV buys for a non-championship fight.
The fight would be incredibly lucrative for both fighters and would put McGregor back on track to capture the title, after he was originally scheduled to fight Dos Anjos for the lightweight strap in at UFC 196 before the Brazilian pulled out with an injured foot.
The doubt is far from nailed on, however, as UFC president Dana White tweeted last night:
