US boxing world champion jailed after altercation at a car body shop

US world boxing champion Terence 'Bud' Crawford has been handed a jail sentence after his involvement in a fracas at a car body shop.

A judge sentenced Crawford, 29, to 90 days in prison, as well as 120 hours of community service.

Crawford was found guilty of disorderly conduct and damage to property in April of this year in a shop in Omaha, Nebraska, where his car was undergoing work.

"You've continued to act as if you are above the law, and you are not," Judge Marcena Hendrix told Crawford during Thursday's sentencing.

The ruling comes just five days after Crawford defended his WBC and WBO world super-lightweight titles against John Molina.

The incident came about after Crawford refused to pay half of the fee for respraying his car, claiming dissatisfaction with the service.

The boxer forcefully removed his car from the shop without paying the full amount. Michael Nelson, the car body shop owner, claims Crawford was able to push an engine underneath the hydraulic lift on which the car was placed.

He then tied a rope to the car and towed it away.
