Usain Bolt tears hamstring at Jamaican Olympic trials

Usain Bolt's Olympic hopes are in danger, after he tore his hamstring at the Jamaican Olympic trials in Kingston.

The 29-year-old is the back-to-back 100 metre, 200 metre and 4x100 metre champion and was hoping to defend all three titles in Brazil in August.

Despite Bolt pulling out of the National Championships on a medical exemption, he could still qualify for Rio if he returns to full fitness. Announcing his decision, Bolt revealed he hopes to return to action at the Anniversary Games in London later this month.

Bolt had won his semi-final in a time of 10.04 seconds before withdrawing from the Final. Former World Champion Yohan Blake won the title in 9.94 seconds. He finished one-hundredth of a second ahead of Nickel Ashmeade.

In 2012, Bolt matched Carl Lewis's record as the only back-to-back 100 metre champion. He is the only back-to-back 200 metre champion in Olympic history.
