Van Gerwen and Anderson feeling confident as they clash at PDC World Darts Championship final

Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson have both expressed their confidence as they prepare to battle in the PDC World Darts Championship final.

Dutchman Van Gerwen reached the decider at Alexandra Palace on the back of a record breaking victory.

He made the highest ever average score at the tournament to beat compatriot Raymond van Barneveld 6-2 in the semi-final.

Van Gerwen’s average of 114.05 was well ahead of the 111 that Phil "The Power" Taylor previously set back in 2002.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, 2014 PDC World Championship winner and World No 1 Van Gerwen asserted that he is confident of a repeat performance against Anderson.

"Everything is possible for me. Everyone knows I only have one goal and [that's to] hold the trophy in the air," he said.

"He's a very good dart player and I probably have to do the same [as in the semi-final] to beat [Anderson]."

For his part, Anderson goes for a third successive PDC World Darts Championship title after triumphs in 2015 and 2016.

The Scottish player secured his place in the final with a 6-3 win over Peter Wright, after eliminating Dave Chisnall in the quarter-finals, and told Sky Sports News that he feels in good form.

"I knew I was scoring well, 180s are coming back, 140s are fine," he said.
