Venus Williams has defeated Misaki Doi 6-4 6-2 to win the inaugural Taiwan Open.

The seven time grand slam winner did not lose a set during the entirety of the competition and moves up to seventh in tournament victories in Women's singles after her 49th title during a career that spans 21 years.

The 35-year-old won the $500,000 tournament and described how great it was to have tennis back in Taiwan, "It's wonderful to have women's tennis here. It's been too long, it's the first time in 22 years. It's my first time in Taiwan, so thank you for making me feel so welcome and thank you for making me feel at home."

Williams sits behind Martina Navratilov on 167 career wins while her sister, Serena, sits in 4th with 69 career wins.

Sunday's final was the first time Williams and Doi played each other.
