The career of Mario Balotelli has rarely been uneventful and his performance for Nice today was a microcosm.

The ex-Liverpool and Manchester City striker has been in good form since joining the Ligue 1 club at the end of the summer.

He had scored five goals in four games for his new club who are riding high at the start of this season's league.

Facing Lorient and drawing 1-1 heading into the final five minutes, Balotelli curled in an excellent goal that proved to be the winner.

But unfortunately for the Italian, that wasn't the end of it.

On 90 minutes, he was sent off for a second yellow card.

As the T-shirt he wore in a past Manchester derby read: "Why always me?"

However from Nice's perspective, victory keeps them top of Ligue 1 for another week.
