It has been a testing time for Cabinteely FC in the League of Ireland First Division.

The Dublin side finished at the bottom of the table last year and moved of the foot of the First Division with a 5-1 win at home against fellow strugglers Athlone Town.

Striker Joe Doyle was the star of the show for Cabinteely. Within the first eight minutes of the game, he had already scored a hat-trick. With goals coming in the second, fourth and eighth minutes, he continued his form and scored a fourth goal inside the half-hour.

Despite scoring the four goals, Doyle told he was unsure if manager Eddie Gormley would let him keep the match ball.

"I have to go in and talk to Eddie now – hopefully I'll be able to keep it!" Doyle added that he hopes the side will be able to improve on their performances from the first half of the season.  "We just haven't been getting the luck, but we got a bit of luck there and showed what we're capable of."

Doyle and his team mates return to action next Friday night in a local derby against UCD at the Belfield Bowl.
